Trump reveals US will help defend Ukraine after its war with Russia

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Washington will assist Ukraine in its post-war security needs but ruled out the deployment of American ground forces.

"You have my assurance," Trump said during a television interview, a day after he welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky along with European leaders to a summit at the White House.

While speaking at Monday’s meetings, Trump confirmed that the U.S. would be “involved” in providing security guarantees to Ukraine once its conflict with Russia ends, though at the time he offered few details. He later clarified his position in a morning interview, saying, “When it comes to security, they're willing to put people on the ground,” referring to European nations.

He added, “We're willing to help them with things, especially probably ... by air because there's nobody that has the kind of stuff we have.”

According to reports, the debate over Ukraine’s future security assurances — and the extent of possible U.S. participation — remains one of the main challenges as Trump attempts to mediate peace between Kyiv and Moscow.
